A constant headache may be indicative of a serious ailment, but most headaches are due to anxiety, stress, physical tension, fatigue, stimulants, allergy, eye strain, or low blood sugar. Pain results from strain on the head or neck muscles or congestion (too much blood) in the blood vessels supplying them.
SELF-HELP
If pain is related to the neck, see a physiotherapist.
CAUTION
If a headache follows a head injury or if there is drowsiness, light intolerance, or vomiting, call 911.
If there is a temperature of more than 100°F (38°C) with light intolerance, or a headache behind one eye with blurred vision, see a doctor within two hours.
If a headache has lasted for several days, with nausea and vomiting, see a doctor within 12 hours.
